Home Delivered Meals are available for homebound seniors aged 60 or older in Jackson County who are unable to prepare a meal because of age, medical condition, or other disability, and who have no one available to prepare meals for them. Liquid Supplements are available for seniors aged 60 or older with a doctor's prescription. Call Karen Davis at 586-8562 for eligibility requirements for Home Delivered Meals and Liquid Supplements.

Operation AniMeals: Operation AniMeals was developed to provide supplemental pet food for any of our Home Delivered meals clients that would benefit from this program. Funding is provided solely by donations from individuals, churches, and other organizations.

Fresh Produce: Fresh produce is available once a month at the Community Services Building through food donations from the Manna Food Bank in Asheville. Call Karen Davis at 586-8562 for dates and eligibility.

Volunteers: The Home Delivered Meals program relies solely on volunteers from meal delivery. A volunteer usually drives one day a week, donating his/her time and transportation. The volunteer is trained for one of eight county routes and introduced to the clients on that route. A route consists of no more than 15 stops, and delivery is completed between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Donations: A portion of the funding is provided by the U. S. government under the Older Americans Act of 1965. All other monies are provided through donations frm citizens, churches, and civic organizations. Donations are accepted at the Department On Aging office at 59 Central Street in Sylva, or may be mailed in to P O Box 596, Sylva, NC 28779.
