Programs and Services

The Jackson County Department On Aging provides a variety of programs and services for seniors in Jackson County.  The programs and services of the Department On Aging are:
  1. Coordinating senior services with other county departments, with other agencies in the county, and with the Jackson County Council On Aging. The Department On Aging cooperates with their counterpart Departments On Aging in other counties through the SWNC Planning and Economic Development -Area Agency On Aging.

  2. The Department On Aging assists in preparing federal block grant funds for elderly services through Jackson County agencies.

  3. Information and Referral services for seniors on a variety of subjects and health issues:
    • S.H.I.I.P. for health insurance information for seniors (call 1-800-443-9354).
    • Publishing JACKSONIAN for senior events each month.
    • Information, pamphlets, books, videos and support services for Alzheimer’s disease.
    • Blank Directives providing information on legal documents like Power of Attorney, etc.
    • Web Sites to identify programs and services for seniors in Jackson County.
    • Publishes a Senior Citizen Resource Directory of agencies serving seniors in the County.
    • Disaster and Emergency Preparedness for Seniors.
       
  4. Loan or donation of fans to low income seniors during summer months.

  5. Support to caregivers and care recipients coping with Alzheimer’s and other related memory disorders through the Caring Hands In-Home Aide Respite Program and Alzheimer’s Support Group.
